4 Fantastic Day Trips from Bristol
Bristol is one of the country’s most visited cities, the ideal place to take a city break. If you’re staying for more than a couple of days, it’s also an ideal base from which to explore surrounding cities and towns. Just take a look at the map to discover how close Bristol sits to other top tourist destinations.
Here are four of our favourites.
- Bath
Bath is only 15 minutes away from Bristol, so it’s easy to take a day trip even if you don’t have your own car. When you arrive, you’ll find yourself strolling through the streets of one of the most picturesque places in the UK. Much of the splendid Regency architecture remains intact, and the Roman Baths are a must-see attraction.
- Cardiff
Bristol is just a hop, skip, and jump from the Welsh border. In under an hour, you can make your way from the centre of Bristol to the capital of Wales, and you’ll find no shortage of sites and attractions when you arrive. Cardiff Castle should be at the top of your list. The Wales Millennium Centre, National Museum Cardiff, and Llandaff Cathedral should follow.
- Weston-Super-Mare
Once a favoured sea-side resort, Weston-Super-Mare has lost none of its charm. When the skies are clear and the sun is shining, large crowds still head to its sandy beaches. You’re free to soak up the sun, and there are plenty of attractions perfect for children, including donkey rides and a pier packed with rides and arcade games. Don’t forget to end your day with a delicious meal of cod and chips.
- Chepstow
Fancy a flutter? You’ll find Wales’ premier thoroughbred racing course just a short drive from Bristol. There are races on throughout the season, but the top event will always be the Welsh Grand National. If you have a little spare cash and fancy seeing if you can turn it into a larger pile, Chepstow makes an ideal day trip from Bristol.
