7 Great Family Activity Ideas

Summer is fast approaching and that means one thing – family activities! This is a great time to get out and about and enjoy fun family activities. The days are cooling down and it’s time to start thinking about getting your family outside and enjoying the beautiful weather. If you’re looking for ideas, here are a few fun options to consider. You can have fun playing outdoors during the hot summer weather or indoors at the end of the day.
Pick up some new language skills. Many new languages are taught with books, but with the growing number of people who speak more than one language, teaching kids how to read and write in their mother tongue can be even more important. One activity you and your family can do this summer is to take an old kids’ book that speaks only a few words in Spanish and turn it into a “discovery book” that teaches kids the Spanish language. For this activity, you’ll need lots of paper, card stock and maybe some clip art or simple graphics that show different words or phrases from the book.
Another fun activity is to have the kids create a magic trick on the sidewalk chalk. This can be an old classic like the Irish Star or even a newer classic like the Statue of Liberty. Either way, you can help teach the kids some of the basic steps of magic tricks and they can use the information to practice as they perfect their own tricks.
Consider a national park trip. In most areas, there are many different types of parks that offer family fun in the sun, great food and plenty of opportunity to explore. Some parks also offer special events, music and lectures. If you’re looking for a great way to introduce your family to national parks, consider a camping trip. Camping trips can be a great way to teach your kids about nature and wilderness and can let them explore new territory on their own while you are out enjoying the great outdoors.
You might want to consider a game night marathon at your home. Game night marathons are a great way to get the family together for some family relaxation. Take the kids and give them all the essentials for a campy game night marathon such as hot dogs, potato chips, nachos and pizza. The more basic the game night marathon the better, so make sure you get the essentials and that everyone has something to bring. As a special touch, include a little note with a bucket list and directions for camping spots and other things you want the kids to bring.
Consider a family bucket list. A family bucket list is just an idea that getting the family together to plan things for the whole family. Use this as a way to bond and get ideas for some great family activities for the whole family. It also makes it easier to get ideas for different family activities from the people you know at home.
