Welcome to Funkytional!
My name’s Anton, I still consider myself pretty new to the blog scene, but I like to think I’ve got a grasp of things so far!
I was born in Greece but moved to the UK full time when I was very young. I love the blend of my heritage and it’s something that I’m very proud of, my Mediterranean background has been a huge influence on my life and grateful that I’ve always had a foot in both worlds.
I like to think my background has made me the father I am today. That’s right – I’m a father! It’s actually a pretty big part of this blog (probably should have mentioned it sooner), Funkytional is my way of sharing my experience raising two daughters in a same sex marriage. That’s right – I’m married! To a man! Scandalous.
Funkytional shares the ups and downs of everyday life, I feel like there’s a bit of a gap in the sharing of parenting experiences with regards to LGBT families. Don’t get me wrong, society has come along in leaps and bounds over the past couple of decades and we’re definitely starting to see more of a shift in the readiness of people to accept LGBT life, but there’s still an odd taboo about two people of the same sex raising children.
This brings me to the next massive part of my life, arguably the biggest thing that defines me. Casey and Lily. My two shining stars. My lovely lights in the darkness. I won’t go into the gory details of how me and Alex came to have natural children, that shouldn’t matter anyway.
So now, my blog. The reason you’re reading about my ‘perfect’ little family. I’m trying to show the world that parenting isn’t all bows and frills that people make it out to be. There’s going to be tears, there’s going to be tantrums and there’s going to be spilt milk. Luckily, I’ll be guiding you through it with hints, tips, tricks, advice and experiences. Hopefully, you’ll find something useful!
